We’re going wayyyyyyyyy back for the seminal Throwback Thursday. Originally written in 1947 for a Broadway musical, “Civilization” tells a story from the perspective of a indigenous (presumably jungle) native who points out the flaws in modern society and why he prefers to live a simple life. I first heard this song through the Fallout 3 soundtrack and loved the arrangements. The horns are upbeat and it’s decent to sing along to. As I listened to the lyrics more though, it is eerie how fitting the concept of the story is to the premise of living in a post-apocalyptic world in Fallout 3. Basically, it makes you think about how there are some things in the modern world that we really don’t need, and those things could be the end of us in some way. Heavy stuff.
I doubt I’ll be able to keep the Throwback Thursday this old. I could always do a different song from each year leading up to today. That’d be pretty cool. I am definitely open to suggestions/requests. Any and all feedback is appreciated!
Souls of Mischief Review coming over the weekend. Peace.
