Top 5 Tuesday: Most Anticipated Albums for the Rest of 2013

Alliteration for the win. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep this one up weekly, but if I do a top 5, it will definitely be on Tuesdays. So with all of the music coming out within the rest of the year, I wanted to put out a list of what I am most interested in getting my hands on. When I do top 5s, they will generally have no particular order at all, but for the sake of this top 5 Tuesday, they shall be in the order of official/expected release.

1. Earl Sweatshirt – Doris (August 20) – I’ve been following Hip Hop a lot lately, and as I have really gotten into Tyler, The Creator and a little Odd Future this summer, I’m ready to see if this OF member’s album lives up to the hype. From the four tracks that are out already (“Hive”, “Burgundy”, “Chum”, “Whoa”) there’s no doubt that Earl is a crazy lyricist, but I want to see if the Odd Future-esque beats become accessible to/ better received by a larger crowd.

2. Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2 (September 30) – The 20/20 Experience (the first half) is probably my favorite album of the year so far, and I can’t wait for the experience to be completed. Timberlake’s style has been refined to have a jazzy/soulful feel instead of straight up pop, and the songs that result are just too good to pass up.

3. Cage the Elephant – Melophobia (tentative{?} October 8) – Cage the Elephant has been one of my favorite (alternative)rock bands over the past few years, coming out with two more-than-solid albums in 2008 and 2011. Named after the fear of music, Melophobia seems to have had its rough patches during production, but the project brought the band together closer in the end. (Source: The single sounds great, but I want to hear some high octane tracks from the album.

4. Lady Gaga – ARTPOP (November 11) – It feels like it has been too long since Born this Way was released, (February 11, 2011) but now all the little monsters can rest their anticipation for a while. Her first single “Applause” was released yesterday, (a week earlier than expected – shout out to Tyler Turgeon for finding it) and I listened to it at least 10 times in a row when I first heard it. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album to see what she has in store.

5. Miley Cyrus – BANGERZ (Tentative 2013) – Yup. I went there. Say what you want about Miley’s new image and the direction for her music, but I like it. The style is more accessible to me than her previous, Hannah Montana-influenced material, and I LOVE “We Can’t Stop” so I am definitely anticipating this album. This one will have to do a lot for me upon listening to get me to buy the whole album though. We’ll just have to see if producers Mike Will Made It, Pharrell Williams, and Dr. Luke can live up to the challenge.

There you have it: my top 5 most anticipated albums of the rest of 2013. I know this list was pretty pop heavy, so feel free to shout out any music you’re anticipating to come out soon too! I know Nelly, A$AP Ferg, Luke Bryan, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more artists are coming out with albums soon. Also feel free to comment on the albums I listed and say if you’re excited for them, loathing their release, etc. The goal is to start conversations!

Both big releases, Ben. Like “Started From the Bottom” a lot, but not a huge fan of him in general and I’ve never listened to The Weeknd :/

Lorde’s album is top notch.
Haim’s was okay for me. Nothing Special.
I like a lot of Chvrches but I never finished it because it all seemed really similar.
I don’t know DIANA :/
