The closer it gets to gameday, the more pumped I become, and the more I may be willing to pay to watch us trounce UMass. I was just going to showcase one song in honor of the musical traditions of Camp Randall, but picking just one would insult the others. So here we go: my three favorite (non marching band) songs to hear at a Wisconsin Badger football game.
1. “Where the Streets Have No Name” by U2
The associations of this song with UW and Football and what I’m doing in life bring tears of joy to my eyes almost every time. The guitar is simple but great, and I love the bass drum in the back. Great song. Great football intro video. Can’t go wrong. And let’s not forget U2’s epic rooftop performance.
2. “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations
The Badgers’ student section may not sound as good as the master track, but it definitely gives you the shivers. As for the song itself, what more can I say than it’s a classic? Everyone knows the words to the chorus, and it’s great for a karaoke duet.
3. “Jump Around” by House of Pain
I’ve heard how House of Pain actually hates/hated this song, but Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t love it more. Major props to the Badgers in attendance at that 1998 game who set the precedent. It seems impossible for another song to have that same magnitude on an audience and create such a tradition.
I enjoy the song outside of the stadium, and I think Everlast’s raps are classic for the time the song came out. Call me biased, but this song’s great and nothing beats going batshit crazy when you hear it before a Badger football fourth quarter.
What are your favorite stadium songs? Leave ’em in the comments and I will respond with my opinion! Gameday can’t come soon enough. I’m gonna go put on my bibs.
